The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) in partnership with Holy Infant Academy (HIA) conducted a tree planting activity on July 23, 2016 in the 35 hectares beach forest of Barangay Gutad, Calapan City. This is in celebration of National Disaster Consciousness Month with the theme “Kahandaan at Pagtugon sa Sakuna, Tungkulin ng Bawat Isa”.
The event started with a prayer led by a student from HIA. Barangay Chairwoman Delia Barriga acknowledged the initiative done to her barangay. Further, Ms. Alona V. Cueto, HIA Principal, appreciated the active participation of the students and their parents in the tree planting activity.The DENR representative and event organizer Forester Amor D. Asi demonstrated the proper way of planting & gave a short introduction about the area. She also thanked all the participants for being active partners of DENR in beach forest rehabilitation.
The celebration was actively participated by more than 2000 participants composed of HIA students, parents, teachers, residents as well as barangay council of Gutad and PENRO employees. The participants were divided into ten groups to maximize the area. Each group was composed of 200 participants. All participants were given 2 potted seedlings per person prior to deployment to their assigned area.
PENRO employees served as guides of the participants in their respective area of assignment. About 3500 potted seedlings of bitaog were planted in the beach forest of Barangay Gutad. Maintenance and protection of planted bitaog shall be the responsibility of the residents and Barangay Council of Gutad, Calapan City.
Through the partnership and active participation of DENR, LGU and HIA, the celebration became successful.
