International Coastal Clean-up Day is held annually every 3rd Saturday of September in observance of the global coastal clean-up celebration.
The Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) leads the celebration of 2017 International Coastal Clean-Up with the PNP Maritime Police, Calapan Labor Service Development Cooperative (CALSEDECO), Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and officials from the LGU of Brgy. Suqui and Lazareto. This year’s celebration focused on the theme “Sama-sama para sa malinis na karagatan”.
The coastal clean-up was conducted along the shorelines of Brgy. Suqui and Lazareto on September 16, 2017. A total of 110 personnel actively participate in the said activity. The coastal clean-up activity aims to remove trash & other debris and enhance awareness of coastal communities on the importance of coastal management and protection. A total of 9 sacks of non-biodegradable trash with an approximate weight of 31 kilos were collected along the 1.4 kilometer shoreline of the two barangays. Biodegradable wastes like bamboo stem, dried leaves and other washed-up debris were buried while non-biodegradable wastes were collected by the City dump trucks. Proper disposal of collected wastes was assigned to the Barangay LGU.
Through the partnership and active participation of DENR, CALSEDECO, DPWH, PNP Maritime and Brgy. LGUs of Suqui and Lazareto, the celebration became successful.
