World Water Day is held annually every 22nd of March as a means of focusing attention on the importance of freshwater and advocating for the sustainable management of freshwater resources.

As the primary agency of the government responsible for the conservation, management, development and proper use of the country’s environment and natural resources, the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office (PENRO) joins the celebration of World Water Day 2017 as part of the continuous effort of the government in quest for sustainable development of the country’s water resources. This year’s celebration focused on the theme “Wastewater”.

A tree planting activity was initiated in support to the celebration. Employees of PENRO together with the LGU of Barangay Silonay conducted the activity in the degraded mangrove area of Silonay. More than 20 personnel actively participate in the said activity. The tree planting activity aims to rehabilitate the typhoon damaged mangrove area in Barangay Silonay which is a key step in preserving our environment and to mitigate the effect of climate change. About 500 propagules of “bakawan babae” were planted during the said activity. Maintenance and protection of planted “bakawan” shall be the responsibility of the residents and Barangay Council of Gutad, Calapan City.
